A Little Paint Goes a Long Way
July 30, 2007The past two weeks, a lot of fix-it crews have been working on painting a huge house on Harvard. The house belonged to a woman named Lula. I talked about this in my post in about trip 3. Painting houses down here can sometimes be a little discouraging. When you think about it, most of these houses have much bigger problems than the paint on the outside. Also the owners never seem to take really good care of their homes, so it can sometimes seem that all that hard work and paint go to waste.
Lula proved that painting was not a waste of time. I was walking by there earlier this week on the way to a different fix-it and there were at least 5 people (mostly some of the kids who had sat outside and watched us paint) working in the yard. There were insane amounts of trash in that yard. Some of the people painting the house complained of feeling sick because of the smell. The people working in the yard were cleaning up trash and weed-whacking. The next day when I walked by they were at it again. This time as I walked by one of the older ladies who was orchestrating the whole operation recognized my People of Praise fix-it shirt and called out to me with a smile on her face, “Y’all fixed up the house, now we gotta fix up the yard. Thank you!” She thanking me a few more times until I was out of earshot. Praise God!
Praise God! it’s nice to know that something like that is coming from our work.
NO WAY. Chris, that’s the best news you could have given me. Praise God! Hooray!
